Thank you for having the manual I needed for an older model Aiwa stero I had found on Ebay --- I wanted the Aiwa because I had tapes and cd's but I did not have a manual as to how to operate the system... I found what I needed and it has enabled me to set the system up for my enjoyment.
I wished detailed information of the JBL S310 and here I found it! Very happy with the service from this site!

Positioning the microphone
Kick drums
Position Resulting sound Much attack, little resonance, dry Commentary Position the microphone at a distance of a few centimeters from the batter head.
Less attack, much resonance, smooth, voluminous
Position the microphone at the level of the resonant head.
Less attack
Position the microphone in the middle between the batter head and the re-sonant head. For less attack in all three positions, turn the microphone away from where the beater strikes.
In order to prevent interference due to crosstalk between adjacent sound sources, try to position the microphone so that the interfering sound source is located in the angle area of the highest cancellation of the microphone (approx. 180°; see polar diagram).
