Probably it never existed a 1081 official service manual from Commodore, it's look more like a NAPCEC service manual & diagrams compilation of the 1084 series and his variants, like the nap6523, 8cm505, 1084S, 1084P and obviously the 1081. It's more complete than other scans and the quality of the scans also are far superior. It has two circuit diagrams variants of the 1081, mono and stereo versions. It doesn't include a diagram for the Philips CM8500 or CM8501, they look like the 1081 but they are slightly different.

6. The background will become white. Check for uneven brightness or black points (skipped dots), and then press the [Enter] key. 7. The background will become black. Check for luminance points (bright dots), and press the [Enter] key. 8. The background will change in color gradually from white to black in upward direction. Check the gradation, and then press the [Enter] key. 9. When �Output Left� is displayed, check that the sounds are outputted from the left speaker, then press the [Enter] key. 10. For the �Output Right� message, check that the sounds are outputted from the right speaker, then press the [Enter] key. 11. For the �Opening MCI Device...� message, check that the MIDI file is played, and then press the [Enter] key. 12. When �Prepared to Suspend� is displayed, press the Standby key on the keyboard to activate the Standby (Suspend) mode. Check that the Power lamp changes from green to orange, and then press the [Enter] key to restore the Test mode. 13. Press the [Enter] key, and �Press ESC key (Return to the Beginning)� will be displayed. For the retest, press the [ESC] key. To quit the test, press the [Pause] key.
4-9. Tablet Diagnostic (PCV-LX910 only)
Set the Tablet Diagnostic disk to the FDD, and start up the main unit. 1. �Touch Pen Tip SW inside the Square� will be displayed, then touch the pen tip to the square in the center of the screen. 2. �Touch Pen Using Side SW (upper) inside the Square� will be displayed, then touch the pen tip to the square in the center of the screen while pressing the side switch above the tablet pen. 3. �Touch Pen Using Side SW (lower) inside the Square� will be displayed, then touch the pen tip to the square in the center of the screen while pressing the side switch under the tablet pen. 4. �Touch Pen Tail SW inside the Square� will be displayed, then touch the tail switch to the square in the center of the screen . 5. �Touch Pen Tip SW inside the Square� will be displayed, then touch the pen tip to the square at the upper left of the screen. 6. �Touch Pen Tip SW inside the Square� will be displayed, then touch the pen tip to the square at the upper right of the screen. 7. �Touch Pen Tip SW inside the Square� will be displayed, then touch the pen tip to the square at the lower left of the screen. 8. �Touch Pen Tip SW inside the Square� will be displayed, then touch the pen tip to the square at the lower right of the screen. 9. �Draw Along the Guide Line� will be displayed, then draw a line with the pen along a blue line inside a red line from the square at the upper left to the square at the lower right.
4-6. LCD LED Test
Set the LCD LED test disk (LCD Diagnostic (Information LED Check)) to the FDD, and start the main unit. After the diagnostic program started, the test is carried out in the interactive mode. 1. When �Confirm the Information LED is turned �ON� and hit any key...� is displayed, check that the Information LED (red) is turned on, then press any key. 2. For the �Confirm the Information LED is turned �OFF� and hit any key...� prompt, check that the Information LED (red) is turned off, then press any key. 3. For the �Confirm the Information LED is blinking (turning ON/OFF repeatedly)� prompt, check that the Information LED (red) is blinking, then press any key.
4-9. BIOS/DMI Data Updating
Set the BIOS/DMI data updating disk (BIOS/DMI Update Tool) to the FDD, and start the main unit. The BIOS/DMI data updating menu will be displayed. ����� MODE SELECT ����� 1: DATA WRITE 2: DATA DISPLAY Q: Quit [1,2,Q]? To write (update) the data, press [1], or to display the data, press [2]. To quit the test, press [Q]. I) Data updating (BIOS/DMI/Update) Note: Do not write-protect the FD. From the menu screen, select �1: DATA WRITE�. 1. [MODEL SELECT] menu The model list will be displayed, then select the model with up and down cursor keys or numeric keys [2] (down) and [5] (up), and press the [Enter] key. 2. [SERIAL] Enter serial number and press the [Enter] key.
4-7. PC Card Test
Note : This test needs the following card bus socket tester additionally. Name : PCC TEST450 (PCMCIA SOCKET TESTER) made by SYCARD TECHNOLOGY 1. Connect the card bus header �CARDBUS� to the PCCTES450. 2. Set the PC card test disk to the FDD, and start the main unit. 3. After the contents of disk are read, �PLEASE INSERT PCCTEST CARD� will be displayed. Make sure that the PCCTEST450 has been inserted, and then press any key. The 32 bit card (card bus) test will start. 4. When �PLEASE CHANGE FROM �CARDBUS� to �16BIT� is displayed, change the card bus header to the one indicating �16BIT�, and press any key. The 16 bit card (PCMCIA) test will start. 5. �OK� will be displayed, if all tests successfully end.
4-8. LAN Test
1. Connect the LAN loopback tool to the NETWORK terminal on the rear panel of the main unit. 2. Set the LAN test disk (LAN Diagnostic) to the FDD, and start the main unit. After the diagnostic program started, the test is carried out automatically. 3. �OK� is displayed if the test result is normal, or �NG� if abnormal.
