Percussion Pad It�s a Fact�
The SPD-6 is Roland�s new compact, lightweight percussion pad that can be played using hands or drum sticks. Playing the SPD-6
The SPD-6 can be struck with your hands for playing bongo-style, or with drumsticks for conventional drum-style playing. Use the following procedure to switch the SPD-6�s sensitivity setting: 1. 2. Set the rear panel SENS switch to the appropriate setting for hands or drumsticks. Strike different pads with sticks or your hands to try out various sounds. Note: Please refer to Page 25 of the Owners Manual for detailed sensitivity adjustments.

Connecting the SPD-6 to an External MIDI Sound Module
If you want the SPD-6 to trigger an external sound module, use a MIDI cable and the following procedure: 1. Before making connections, power off all devices. 2. Use the included MIDI cable to connect the MIDI OUT of the SPD-6 to the MIDI IN on the external sound module. 3. Switch on the power to the SPD-6 and the connected sound module. 4. While playing the SPD-6, adjust the volume on the external device. Note: Please refer to Pages 26-31 of the Owners Manual for detailed MIDI settings.

Selecting Patches
Patches consist of acoustic and electronic drum kits, conga and bongo kits or sound effect kits. Use the following procedure to select a patch: 1. Press DRUM/U1, PERC/U2 or SFX/U3 to select a patch group. 2. Press 1-4 to select a variation within that group. 3. Strike pads 1-6 to audition all the sounds in the patch.

Using a Pedal Switch
You can use a footswitch such as the DP-2 or FS-5U to trigger selected sounds. Use the following procedure to trigger a sound using a pedal: 1. Plug a pedal into PEDAL SW 1(Hi-Hat) and or PEDAL SW 2 (Kick drum) 2. Press the pedal�the selected sound will be heard. Note: Please refer to Pages 22-23 of the Owners Manual to learn how to select a different sound.
